On the night of Jan. 16, No. 4 ranked Texas basketball responded in strong fashion to a tough loss at the hands of the No. 15 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders from earlier in the week. Head coach Shaka Smart and his Texas team responded to the loss to Texas Tech by upended the struggling Kansas State Wildcats at home at the Frank Erwin Center, by the final score of 82-67.

This was exactly the right timing for Smart and the Longhorns to get the bottom two teams in the Big 12 standings during the conference slate. Texas got their 11th win of the regular season so far by knocking off Kansas State at home on Jan. 16. And up next for this strong Texas team is a matchup on the road in Ames with the Iowa State Cyclones on the night of Jan. 20.

Despite the loss to Texas Tech earlier in the week (specifically back on Jan. 13), the Longhorns should still hold at least a top five or six ranking in both major polls when they’re updated next week. Texas now holds a record of 11-2 (5-1 Big 12) through their first 13 games of this altered college hoops season.

Texas still firmly sits among the top two or three teams in the Big 12 so far this season even after having their undefeated start to conference play snapped four days back. At the moment, it looks like the Big 12 regular season title could come down to the Baylor Bears, Kansas Jayhawks, and the Longhorns.

There’s a lot of positives to takeaway from the first half (about) of the regular season for the Longhorns. But there are negatives that need to be fixed too.

Here’s a look into three of the biggest disappointments from the first 13 games this season for Texas.
