3) Disappointing Texas basketball players through first 13

Jericho Sims, Center

A player that has improved his play of late, but didn’t come out of the gates too strong for the Longhorns on the hardwood, is the experienced senior center Jericho Sims. This talented and versatile two-way big man has started in all 13 games he’s played in so far this season for the Longhorns (averaging just over 22 minutes on the floor per game).

And in his 13 games played so far this season, Sims averaged 7.8 points per game, 6.4 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.8 blocks. And he’s shot 62.1 percent from the field, doesn’t have any attempts from beyond the arc, and shot 54.7 percent from the free-throw line. His per game stats do leave a lot to be desired with the level of expectations for Sims coming into his senior campaign.

This all has amounted to a solid 5.6 box plus/minus rating, 115 offensive rating/91 defensive rating, .180 win shares per 40 minutes, 1.3 total win shares, 60.7 true shooting percentage, and 18.8 player efficiency rating.

The advanced metrics for Sims, especially of late, are getting more and more impressive. But both the per game stats and all-encompassing advanced metrics show that Sims took a decent step back from his level of play so far this season compared to last.

If he continues the pace of production and efficiency he’s showed of late, then Sims will make it off this list of most disappointing players for the Longhorns thus far. And that might not be too far into the future for this senior big man.
