1) Disappointing Texas basketball players through first 13

Donovan Williams, Shooting Guard

The last player on this list for the Longhorns, and one that is still on the current roster, is the former talented four-star recruit and sophomore shooting guard/wing Donovan Williams. As a player that was expected to take a major leap forward this season and assume a bigger role in the rotation for Smart, Williams hasn’t really lived up to the hype thus far.

Just like Liddell did earlier in the season, Williams started to see his playing time and role at his spot in the rotation fade as this campaign has moved along. The difference is that with Williams sticking around beyond just the first seven or so games of the regular season, he has the chance to win a bigger role back in the rotation at some point in the near future.

Williams has played in nine games for the Longhorns so far this season (starting in none of them and averaging just over 10 minutes on the floor per game). He’s averaged 3.8 points per game, 0.9 rebounds, 0.1 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.3 blocks, and 1.3 turnovers. Williams shot 29.7 percent from the field, 15.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 90.0 percent from the free-throw line.

That all has amounted to a 75 offensive rating/98 defensive rating, a poor -6.7 box plus/minus rating, -.011 win shares per 40 minutes, no win shares, 40.7 true shooting percentage, and 3.2 player efficiency rating.

Maybe it is just about Williams getting more overall playing time for him to really get off and running. What we do know is that the per game stats, shooting percentages, and all encompassing advanced metrics leave a lot to be desired for him so far this season.
