It feels like it’s almost time for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class to really start heating up with recently hired head coach Steve Sarkisian seeing his coaching staff coming together around him of late. Texas already got a nice boost on the recruiting trail for their 2022 class earlier in the month, when they landed a commitment from the highly coveted four-star 6-foot-2 and 180 pound Lewisville wide receiver Armani Winfield.

The commitment of Winfield arrived for Sark and the Longhorns back on Jan. 12, and finally gave this 2022 class some momentum heading in the right direction.

Another commitment at a key skill position could be on the way in the not too distant future if the momentum that Texas has with the underrated three-star Rockwall-Heath running back Zach Evans keeps moving in the right direction.

Although this is a different “Zach Evans” from the one that caused so much polarization in his individual recruitment during the 2020 cycle (he’s now with the TCU Horned Frogs), he could still be a primary target at this position for Texas. Evans is a speedy and elusive 5-foot-9 and 185 pound high school prospect hailing out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (specifically Rockwall, TX).

Texas football offer to Zach Evans

Texas offered Evans not too long ago, specifically on Jan. 15, 2021. His Texas scholarship offer is the most recent one he’s received. Evans now holds offers from the Longhorns, and 10 other schools, on his growing offer sheet.

The other highlighting schools on Evans’ offer sheet includes the Utah Utes, Arizona State Sun Devils, Kansas Jayhawks, New Mexico Lobos, North Texas Mean Green, and Tulsa Golden Hurricane. More offers are likely to roll in for Evans in the near future.

Moreover, Evans currently ranks as the nation’s No. 670 2022 high school prospect, No. 63 running back, and No. 85 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 50 running back and No. 94 prospect out of Texas.

Texas still holds two commits in their 2022 recruiting class, with Winfield and four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau holding down the fort. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 17 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners.
