On the night of Jan. 26, the result desired was not what was delivered for the acting head coach (and former SMU Mustangs assistant) KT Turner and No. 5 ranked Texas basketball at home at the Frank Erwin Center. Texas got to face the No. 24 ranked Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game on the hardwood earlier this week, but they didn’t get to extend their winning streak to two games.

The Longhorns head coach Shaka Smart missed the Oklahoma game due to a positive novel coronavirus test, which he announced on his Twitter timeline the day before tip off. Smart and the Longhorns had their previous two games pushed back in the wake of COVID-19 related issues too.

Texas was supposed to face the Iowa State Cyclones on Jan. 20, and the TCU Horned Frogs on Jan. 23. The last game that the Longhorns had played in prior to facing Oklahoma at home on Jan. 26 resulted in a win at the Erwin Center over the Kansas State Wildcats back on Jan. 16, by the final score of 82-67.

This now makes it two losses in the Longhorns last three games. Considering they only have three losses on the season in total in 14 games played, the lack of success in the win column of late will hopefully just be adversity that brings this team closer together over the long haul.

And given how many players the Longhorns were missing in the loss to Oklahoma earlier this week, the result wasn’t all too surprising.

With all of this in mind, here’s a deeper look into three of the most concerning recent slumps that the Longhorns are seeing some of their players go through.
