Texas football fans officially saw now former junior running back Keaontay Ingram enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, and land with head coach Clay Helton and the USC Trojans earlier in the week. Losing the likes of the former highly coveted four-star in-state recruit Ingram is maybe the biggest transfer departure to occur so far this offseason for the new regime led by recently hired head coach Steve Sarkisian. Ingram and junior cornerback Jalen Green were the most experienced and notable losses to the transfer portal for Sark still early on in the 2021 offseason.

Green wound up landing with head coach Mike Leach and the Mississippi State Bulldogs around the same timeframe that Ingram announced he would transfer to USC this week.

Moreover, with Sark and the Longhorns losing Ingram to the transfer portal, they’ll need to replenish the running back depth somehow. Texas does have the four-star Hallettsville running back signee Jonathon Brooks in their 2021 recruiting class, and he’ll add some pop to this position group. But Texas still might have to seek out answers elsewhere.

Turning back to the transfer portal to replace the loss of Ingram is certainly one option. Texas was interested in pursuing the former Tennessee Volunteers standout running back Eric Gray out of the portal this offseason. But Gray joined a trio of now former Vols in taking his talents to Norman to join the rival Oklahoma Sooners earlier this week.

If Sark and the Longhorns still have the intention of adding running back depth this offseason, what other options could they look to in the portal, as it stands now?
