4) Texas football transfer RB targets to replace Ingram

A younger option that the Longhorns could turn to in the face of losing Ingram from their running back room lies with the now former Auburn Tigers highly touted blue chip recruit and freshman running back Mark Antony Richards. The Auburn backfield as a whole saw a lot of roster turnovers in the last couple of offseasons.

Hitting the transfer portal now tends to be a frequent occurrence for running backs that commit to Auburn coming out of high school. And this storyline was what happened for Richards heading into the 2021 offseason. After just one year of playing in this Auburn offense, Richards’ name appeared in the transfer portal as one of the most talented underclassmen available at the position.

Richards putting his name in the portal in the first place likely had a lot to do with the firing of now former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn. Although he sat on a hot seat in different parts of the last four or five years, the firing of Malzahn was a move that a lot of voices around the college football landscape didn’t fully agree with.

What Texas could get out of Richards out of the portal is a running back with a boat load of talent and potential still left to be tapped into. During his freshman campaign with the Tigers last fall, Richards registered 76 rushing yards on 20 attempts (3.8 yards per carry), with no rushing touchdowns.

Coming out of Wellington High School in West Palm Beach, FL, Richards was an integral part of Auburn’s 2019 recruiting class. Despite already having played in college now for two years, Richards will still retain four years of eligibility starting in 2021.

He ranked as the nation’s No. 90 2019 high school prospect, No. 4 athlete, and the No. 12 prospect out of Florida (247Sports Composite).
