Former Texas football recruiting coordinator Bryan Carrington joining USC
There’s quite the herd of former players, coaches, and staffers from the Texas football program headed the way of the USC Trojans under head coach Clay Helton of late. Last offseason, it was the likes of former Texas assistant Craig Naivar and defensive coordinator Todd Orlando that were brought on board with the USC coaching staff.
This offseason, there’s a bunch of former Longhorns players, coaches, and staffers, once again headed for Southern California. The most notable to come of late is the former Texas recruiting coordinator, and just an overall rising star in the college football recruiting ranks, Bryan Carrington.
Carrington was a key cog in the machine that was the staff on the recruiting trail for the former Longhorns fourth-year head coach Tom Herman. For three of the last four recruiting cycles, Carrington was part of a Texas staff that did really well on the trail. The Longhorns had amassed three straight top 10 ranked recruiting classes in the nation.
But that streak was about to be broken in all likelihood had Herman remained as the Texas head coach through National Signing Day earlier this week.
Moreover, a report from Horns247 on Feb. 4 confirmed that Carrington is making his way from the Forty Acres to join the USC staff. He will reportedly take on a bit of a different role now too. Carrington is going to be an offensive quality control assistant at USC, which should be a more hands on role with the current players at hand compared to his role as recruiting coordinator with the Longhorns.
Carrington at USC compared to Texas football
This role will apparently help Carrington reach his goal of being more hands-on with the players actually out on the field week in and week out, while also still making an impact on the recruiting trail.
Texas was the first Power Five school that Carrington held a major role at. Now he’ll be able to extend his duties and responsibilities on the job with the USC coaching staff. This is a big step in his college football coaching/staffing career.
Carrington was a recruiting coordinator for the Longhorns since 2018. Recently hired Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will now be responsible for assembling his support staff on the recruiting trail this offseason. But Sark is off to a pretty good start on the trail so far, including landing a commitment/signing from blue chip strong-side defensive end David Abiara on National Signing Day (Feb. 3).
