On the night of Feb. 2, No. 6 ranked Texas basketball had a prime opportunity at home at the Frank Erwin Center to get what would’ve been their biggest win of the regular season to date. Texas and head coach Shaka Smart faced the undefeated and No. 2 ranked Baylor Bears at home on Feb. 2, but it didn’t go their way in the end.

Smart and the Longhorns have now lost two games in a row, and three of their last four. January and early February were not easy for the Longhorns on the hardwood (and off) with a lot of negative impacts stemming from novel coronavirus cases.

In their loss to the Oklahoma Sooners last week, Texas was even without Smart on the sidelines due to a positive COVID-19 test. Texas also dealt with a number of other losses in the wake of COVID-19 related absences, and had a number of games pushed back for the same reason.

Texas now owns a record of 11-4 (5-3 Big 12) following their two losses in a row at the hands of Baylor and Oklahoma. Their lone win in the last four outings came over the struggling Kansas State Wildcats a few weeks back. And the other loss in the last four came against head coach Chris Beard and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Next up for Smart and the Longhorns is a meeting with superstar point guard Cade Cunningham and the Oklahoma State Cowboys on the road at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Feb. 6. That will be a good chance for Texas to get back on track, and away from home.

However, during this losing skid, which Longhorns are still shining of late?
