Heading out of this cycle, the 2021 Texas football recruiting class has a lot to reflect on, both good and bad. Now former fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman had a roller coaster ride of a recruiting cycle prior to his Jan. 2 departure from the program. Former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and the reigning Broyles Award winner Steve Sarkisian took over as Herman’s replacement.

Herman left behind a messy situation for the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class for Sark and his new look coaching staff to mop up just ahead of National Signing Day. A topsy turvy set of results on the recruiting trail still wound up netting Sark and the Longhorns a decent 2021 signing class in the end, though.

Texas signed a 2021 class that included a handful of pulls out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, and 21 commits/signees among their high school prospects. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 17 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners.

The highest rated commit/signee in the mix for the Longhorns 2021 class, as the lone five-star prospect, was the highly coveted Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. But that was just one of two prospects that the Longhorns were hoping to sign out of Denton-Ryan High School in their 2021 class.

There were still a handful of misses that are really difficult to live down for the Longhorns 2021 class. The 2021 cycle will not be the best of memories for Texas to look back on. With that in mind, here’s a look back at three of the toughest misses throughout the entire 2021 recruiting cycle for the Longhorns post-National Signing Day.
