2) Biggest 2021 Texas football recruiting misses post-NSD

Losing out on a legacy set of highly coveted prospects like the Brockermeyer brothers really hurt for Herman and the Longhorns in the midst of the 2021 recruiting cycle. But at least Herman didn’t see the commitment of the Brockermeyer brothers eventually flip from Texas to a rival school.

That is exactly what happened with the Longhorns recruitment of the elite four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr. The ultra-elusive Denton, TX, native Bowman Jr. stands at 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds and was one of the bigger parts of Oklahoma’s 2021 signing class. Bowman Jr. wound up flipping his commitment from Texas to the rival Sooners last fall.

There was no single flip in the Longhorns 2021 class that came even close to having the impact that losing out of Bowman Jr. will. That is maybe outside of the flip of four-star Katy-Tompkins dual-threat quarterback Jalen Milroe from Alabama to Texas last year.

In general, Bowman Jr. had a lengthy offer sheet of more than 30 schools this past cycle. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, TCU Horned Frogs, and USC Trojans.

Moreover, Bowman Jr. ranked as the nation’s No. 43 2021 high school prospect, No. 2 athlete, and No. 8 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 39 high school prospect, No. 2 athlete, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas.
