3) Immediate impact 2021 Texas football signees

Figuring out which position the top rated signee in the Longhorns 2021 class will play at this fall will be a big task at hand for Sark and his new look coaching staff. The elite five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders could likely play on either side of the ball for Texas. At Denton-Ryan he played in the receiving corps and as a defensive end/edge rusher.

Given the massive losses that the Longhorns are taking on along the front seven, newly hired defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski could really use Sanders playing in more of an edge rusher role. The 6-foot-4 and 235 pound in-state product was one of the higher rated signees in recent memory for Texas.

Not only was Sanders an extremely highly touted commit/signee for the Longhorns, he was also the lone five-star prospect in the mix. He signed with Texas during the first day of the Early Signing Period, which was a big keep for the program despite all of the heat surrounding former head coach Herman at the time.

Sanders wound up picking Texas over offers from more than 20 other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet were the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma, Texas A&M Aggies, and Washington Huskies.

And Sanders ranked as the nation’s No. 12 2021 high school prospect, top overall athlete, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked Sanders as the nation’s No. 29 high school prospect, top overall athlete, and No. 3 prospect out of Texas.
