Texas Football: 3 immediate impact 2021 signees for the Longhorns
1) Immediate impact 2021 Texas football signees
Stocking up talent in the defensive backfield is a key task at hand for Sark and newly hired defensive backs coach (formerly with the Notre Dame coaching staff) Terry Joseph this offseason. Texas saw a lot of turnover in the secondary so far this offseason, especially to the transfer portal. Two of the most significant losses included junior cornerback Jalen Green and freshman safety Xavion Alford.
One of the most highly touted defensive back signees in the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class is the talented 6-foot and 170 pound John Muir four-star cornerback Jamier Johnson. This California native was the sole signee from the west coast for the Longhorns in the 2021 class too.
Getting a duo of four-star cornerback signees like the in-state product Ishmael Ibraheem and Johnson could be big for this position group moving forward.
Johnson wound up committing to Texas over offers from just over a dozen other schools. Some of the other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, Colorado Buffaloes, Florida, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State, Oregon Ducks, USC Trojans, and UCLA Bruins.
Moreover, Johnson ranks as the nation’s No. 264 2021 high school prospect, No. 21 cornerback, and No. 22 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 25 cornerback and No. 26 prospect out of California.
