2) Texas basketball players who must bounce back soon

Jase Febres, Small Forward

It’s pretty weird to see the rotation back with the fourth-year shooting guard/small forward Jase Febres in the mix. While he’s only played in three games so far this season (starting in none of them), his minutes are getting a slight uptick in each additional outing. Febres missed most of the season so far, and he’s only averaging around half of the points per game so far that he did last year.

In his three games played this season, Febres averaged just north of 21 minutes on the floor per game. And he’s averaging 4.7 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks. Febres shot 29.4 percent from the field, 25.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 73.1 percent from the free-throw line.

The inclusion of Febres on this list was not so much because he needs to bounce back. He needs to get his game going in the first place after making his debut in the Longhorns Jan. 16 win over Kansas State at home. That means that two of the three games that Febres has played in this season came against Kansas State.

His other game that he’s played in thus far came in the tough Jan. 26 loss at home to Oklahoma. That also means that four of his first five games played this season comes against Oklahoma and Kansas State.

More than anything, Smart and the Longhorns need Febres to get going from downtown and with his one-on-one defending to provide more depth and proven experience on the wing.
