Texas Football: 3 most underrated 2021 Horns signees

Now that it’s all in the books for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class following the conclusion of National Signing Day last week, newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian can officially turn his attention to the 2022 cycle. Texas signed a 2021 recruiting class that could still bring a lot of value to the table for this program.

All in all, the 2021 signing class didn’t turn out like Sark likely wanted, or what now former Longhorns fourth-year head coach Tom Herman once imagined. Texas was on a roller coaster ride on the recruiting trail for their 2021 and 2022 classes in the last eight months under Herman’s direction. Tough recruiting whiffs and decommitments all decimated a lot of the once promising results that Herman put together for both classes.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 17 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas signed 21 prospects in their 2021 class, including a handful of key additions out of the NCAA Transfer Portal.

What Sark and the Longhorns got out of the transfer portal included the former Notre Dame Fighting Irish edge rusher/defensive end Ovie Oghoufo and ex-LSU Tigers linebacker Ray Thornton. There was also one notable addition that Texas got on National Signing Day to the 2021 class among their high school prospects.

The highest rated commit/signee in the 2021 class was the elite five-star Denton-Ryan athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. But like Sanders, most of the Longhorns commits in the 2021 class were locked in during the Early Signing Period. National Signing Day still brought some notable news drops for Texas for their 2021 class when it was all said and done, though.
