Texas Football: Sark thinks Horns should be going ‘toe-to-toe’ with Bama
“We want Bama”.. It’s something hard to imagine hearing Texas football fans chant at the moment. But it’s also something that newly hired Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is expecting out of this program apparently in the very near future. Sark did bring a very touted coaching staff to the Forty Acres, and that could take this program to new heights. The results on the recruiting trail thus far also look very promising.
The main goal at hand for Sark and the Longhorns this season will be gaining a foothold in the Big 12 Championship race and start to establish that continuity once again for the foreseeable future. It’s been way too long since the Longhorns consistently sat among the top contenders to win a Big 12 Title year in and year out.
Moreover, that seems to be the mindset for Sark as he heads into his first full offseason as the Texas head coach. Not only does he seem to have high expectations for what Texas can do in the Big 12, he thinks they have the potential to make some serious noise around the college football landscape as a whole.
What Sark said about Texas football
In a recent interview with 105.3 The Fan FM, Sark stated that he feels like Texas should be able to go “toe-to-toe” with his former boss and head coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide. Sark is the former Alabama offensive coordinator and reigning Broyles Award winner from his time with the National Champion Crimson Tide last season.
Sark was Alabama’s offensive coordinator under Saban for a total of two years prior to him taking the reigns for the Texas program last month.
While Texas clearly has the resources to be the most proficient football program in the entire country, meeting those standards in terms of success in the win column (especially in the postseason), is a completely different story. Baby steps and patience will have to win the day with Sark from the beginning.
Sark assembled a good looking coaching staff thus far that is highlighted by hirings like new defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, and special teams coordinator Jeff Banks. He did bring a lot of his coaching staff with him from Tuscaloosa this offseason.
