The reaction that came down around the Texas football program after they landed a huge commitment from the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy was electric this weekend. Texas got a massive boost to their 2022 recruiting class with the ultra highly touted California native Murphy, which arrived originally on the afternoon of Feb. 13.

Newly hired Texas head coach and former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator/the reigning Broyles Award winner Steve Sarkisian looks to be a big reason why Murphy chose to give his commitment to this program this weekend. Sark, among a number of others associated with the Longhorns football program, took to social media to announce their elated reactions to the commitment of Murphy to the 2022 class.

Sark is ecstatic about getting this foundational piece in his 2022 class, which should be more than obvious.

What Sark and Texas football meant for Maalik Murphy

According to a report from 247Sports following the announcement of the commitment of Murphy to the Longhorns over the weekend, Sark is a “huge reason why” he brought his talents to the Forty Acres over other competing suitors. Texas could have their perfect signal caller replacement to the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers in Murphy.

Texas couldn’t do much better to fill the quarterback position need in their 2022 class than landing a commitment from Murphy. This uber-talented 6-foot-5 and 225 pound signal caller hailing out of Gardena, CA, was about as good as it gets among the previously remaining uncommitted high school prospects at the position.

Sark and his new look coaching staff did a fantastic job in winning over the interests of Murphy so fast to come to the Forty Acres. They can start their trek to nab a top three or five ranked 2022 recruiting class in the nation after getting Murphy in the mix.

What Texas is getting out of Murphy is the nation’s No. 30 2022 high school prospect, No. 2 pro-style quarterback, and No. 4 prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 62 high school prospect, No. 3 pro-style quarterback, and No. 5 prospect out of California.

Murphy wound up committing to Texas over offers from 30 other schools.

The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.
