Texas Football: NCSU DPP Billy Glasscock a target for the Longhorns
A huge weekend for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and with more potential movement with the support staff for newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian kept the news cycle on the Forty Acres very busy. Sark not only really boosted up his 2022 recruiting class with two big commitments over the weekend, he also could make a notable addition to his support staff after some controversy earlier in the week.
It looked like there was a chance that Sark and the Longhorns would hire Drew Hughes formerly of the Tennessee Volunteers to be their next director of player personnel. But now that Hughes sits firmly in the midst of NCAA allegations against the Tennessee football program, the Longhorns were forced to look elsewhere.
Texas football’s DPP job
The next name up on the list for the Longhorns reportedly to hire their next director of player personnel hails from the NC State Wolfpack football program. According to a report from Horns247 on Feb. 13 (paid content), Texas is looking into NC State’s director of player personnel Billy Glasscock to fill the same role within their staff this offseason.
It was a fast rise to prominence in the role that Glasscock holds now with the Wolfpack. He was formerly the director of recruiting with the Minnesota Golden Gophers prior to taking this role he currently holds in Raleigh.
The hire of Glasscock as the next director of player personnel for the Longhorns is reportedly not set in stone yet, but interest from both sides is showing through this weekend. Since this is one of the biggest roles that Sark has yet to officially fill on his support staff, this is an ongoing storyline worth following for Texas fans.
The former director of player personnel for the Longhorns, under the direction of now former fourth-year head coach Tom Herman, was Derek Chang. He held that role on the Forty Acres for four years prior to the departure of Herman last month.
Under the direction of the former head coach Herman, the Longhorns finished up the 2020 season with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12). Since the conclusion of the 2020 season, Texas has largely reshaped their football program after the hiring of Sark officially back on Jan. 2.
