Texas Football: Predicting the next 2022 commit after QB Maalik Murphy
On the afternoon of Feb. 13, the 2022 Texas football recruiting class got a huge boost to its stock after landing the commitment of the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy. Texas got their fourth and fifth commitments in their 2022 class over the weekend, with the other pledge coming from the underrated three-star Arlington-Martin inside linebacker Trevell Johnson.
And the commitments from both Murphy and Johnson came within hours of each other on the afternoon/evening of Feb. 13. Newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns 2022 class is really starting to build a nice foundation with four blue chip commits in the mix now, including one of the top quarterback prospects in the entire country for this cycle.
The commitment of Murphy to the Longhorns 2022 class was announced to the public on his Twitter timeline on Feb. 13. That came sooner than anticipated, especially since Murphy has a planned visit to the Forty Acres for next week.
Nonetheless, there’s no way that any Longhorns fan should be disappointed with how things shaped up for this class. Just four months ago, Texas had recently lost the commitment of the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Now that Texas has the commitment of Murphy officially in the mix for the 2022 class, the group ranks at No. 7 in the national class rankings and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners (per 247Sports Team Composite Rankings). Murphy is the highest rated of five commits in the Longhorns 2022 class at the moment.
With all of this in mind, here’s a look into who could be the next commit for the Longhorns 2022 class after landing Murphy this weekend.
