The changes are still very much ongoing for the coaching and support staff for the Texas football program at this point of the offseason. Newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian has largely rounded out his on-field coaching staff, but there’s still some positions to fill among the support staff as the offseason moves along.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and the reigning Broyles Award winner Sark had reportedly (per Horns247, paid content) looked into the North Carolina Tar Heels assistant Bobby Brown for a role on his support staff. But Brown reportedly turned down the offer from Sark and the Longhorns, citing that he is happy with his current role with the Tar Heels.

Since February 2019, Brown served as a personnel/recruiting assistant on staff under former Texas head coach and UNC bench boss Mack Brown. He was promoted to analyst/defensive recruiting specialist last year, as he continues to work his way up the college football coaching ranks with the Tar Heels.

Back during his playing days in college, Brown suited up for the Iowa State Cyclones in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He then transferred to a lower division to round out his college football playing days.

History of this Texas football staff target

Since his run in the college football coaching ranks began roughly five years ago, Brown has held various roles with more than three different programs. Brown served in various operations roles with Iowa State and the Army Black Knights to start out his run in the coaching ranks. He then was the assistant director of recruiting and player personnel with the Air Force Falcons.

His prior role that he had before landing with the Tar Heels was as an assistant linebackers coach and a defensive quality control coach with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Brown still played a pivotal role in the recruiting staff during his time in Winston-Salem.

While it’s still not officially ruled out that the Longhorns won’t be able to get Brown on their support staff on the Forty Acres, it reportedly is very likely not to happen at this point in time. It sounds like he is happy with how things are going under Mack with the Tar Heels right now.

It looks like the most recent addition to the support staff for Sark and the Longhorns will be Billy Glasscock as the director of player personnel. Glasscock served in the same role under head coach Dave Doeren with the NC State Wolfpack through the conclusion of the 2020 season.
