1) Why Texas basketball could dominate WVU

Surging play of the starting frontcourt

Just like the backcourt duo of Coleman and Ramey have played better in the last few games for the Longhorns, so has the team’s starting frontcourt. Whether it be the likes of Jones, Sims, and/or Brown as the starting duo in the frontcourt, Texas got solid production down low of late. Usually Jones is very efficient coming off the bench for the Longhorns too in the midst of is breakout sophomore campaign.

Contending with West Virginia’s standout 6-foot-10 and 255 pound power forward Derek Culver is going to be a tall task for the likes of Texas’ best trio of bigs. But it’s something that’s not completely out of the question for this group.

In a quietly efficient senior campaign, Sims has played increasingly well through 17 games (all of which he’s started in). He’s averaged 7.8 points per game, 6.9 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.9 blocks.

Meanwhile, Brown is starting to find more stability in his game on both ends of the floor of late too. In 17 games played this season (all of which he’s started in), Brown averaged 11.5 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.1 blocks. He’s shot 43.3 percent from the field, an improving 36.8 percent from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.

If depth can come through in terms of numbers and production on the stat line, then Texas’ frontcourt rotation could be a major key to success in this game. Both Texas and West Virginia are deep in their frontcourt rotations, but the former of the two teams could have the edge from their top trio of Sims, Jones, and Brown.
