Texas football 2022 TE target Jason Llewellyn commits to OU
A position group that should be emphasized for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class in the near future is at tight end. Texas got a nice boost within the last month for their 2022 class at the wide receiver position by landing commitments from four-star Lewisville product Armani Winfield and four-star Frisco-Liberty product Evan Stewart.
The commitment that newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns landed for their 2022 class that came most recent was from Stewart entering the weekend. Texas now has two wide receiver commits in their 2022 class that could be real difference makers a couple of years down the road.
But if Sark and the Longhorns turn their attention to recruiting at the tight end position, then the skill positions in the 2022 class could be seriously special. Texas has yet to land any tight end commits in this class to date.
Texas football and the pursuit of this TE
And one of the offers that went out from Texas to a 2022 tight end prospect just landed with a rival last week. The unheralded 6-foot-5 and 240 pound Aledo tight end Jason Llewellyn has offers from just over 20 schools, but announced his commitment to a destination other than Texas on Feb. 19.
The Texas native Llewellyn announced his commitment to head coach Lincoln Riley and the rival Oklahoma Sooners on Feb. 19 over offers from Texas and 19 other schools. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, Michigan Wolverines, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Ole Miss Rebels, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, and Utah Utes.
The scholarship offer that Llewellyn received from the Longhorns came back on Feb. 1. But the Sooners swooped up and offered him on Feb. 13, with his commitment coming just six days later.
Llewellyn is currently an unranked prospect in both the 247Sports Composite and Top247. But the attention he’s gotten on the recruiting trail of late proves how much potential he brings to the table.
Moreover, Llewellyn made his commitment to Oklahoma known to the public eye on his Twitter timeline on the morning of Feb. 19. That came pretty quick after a bevy of offers, including those from Oklahoma and Texas, earlier this month.
After landing the commitment from Stewart, Texas is now up to six prospects in their 2022 class. Stewart is the most recent commitment for the Longhorns, and the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy is the highest rated.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 5 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of the Oklahoma schools. The skill positions look to be the hot topic right now in Texas’ 2022 class.
