Texas Football: Billy Glasscock officially hired as director of player personnel
The writing was on the wall for the next official hire to the coaching staff of the Texas football program at this point of the offseason. But the news that newly hired Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian would be hiring Billy Glasscock to be his director of player personnel officially arrived on the afternoon of Feb. 19 (confirmed by Horns247 report).
This is the biggest program that Glasscock will take on for the same role that he served in with the NC State Wolfpack and Minnesota Golden Gophers in recent years. The last role that Glasscock held was under head coach Dave Doeren as the NC State director of player personnel from 2017-2020.
Glasscock also served as the director of recruiting operations for the Golden Gophers, along with a few other roles here and there, through 2017. He started out his coaching/support staff run in the college football coaching ranks actually in JUCO, including Arizona Western.
Background of next Texas football DPP
His first FBS job came on the support staff with the Northern Illinois Huskies in the late 2000’s and early 2010’s.
Glasscock is reportedly a “strong evaluator of talent” which could’ve played a role in the spark of player development success seen in Raleigh under Doeren’s tenure as head coach. He looked to be the second in line for this role after the former Tennessee Volunteers assistant Drew Hughes was ruled out in the midst of NCAA allegations.
Sark is really starting to round out both his coaching staff and support staff after two of his latest official hires. He promoted from within to replace Bryan Carrington with Brandon Harris as the next director of recruiting operations. Harris was the former assistant running backs coach to Stan Drayton.
The former assistant that Glasscock will be replacing is Derek Chang.
Sark replaced the now former fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman back on Jan. 2. The former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and reigning Broyles Award takes over for a team that finished up last season with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12).
