Texas Basketball: 3 reasons Horns can dominate Kansas again
2) Why Texas basketball can dominate KU
Hot play of their top backcourt/wing trio
It was hard to believe that the Longhorns were not able to pull off the win against West Virginia over the weekend when they got a combined 48 points from the standout guard combination of senior Matt Coleman and junior Courtney Ramey. Texas got stellar play also of late from the standout redshirt junior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones.
Ramey delivered a huge performance for Texas in the loss to West Virginia, with a career and game-high 28 points. He is having his best season of his college career to date. Ramey has played in 18 games so far this season for the Longhorns (all of which he’s started in). And he’s averaged a career-best 14.1 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.1 blocks. Ramey shot 42.7 percent from the field, 45.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 80.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Meanwhile, Coleman has maintained his usual steady presence for the Longhorns of late. He’s started in all 19 games he’s played in for Texas so far this season. And Coleman averaged 13.1 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.1 blocks. He’s shot 48.6 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, and 82.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Last but not least, Jones is playing really well for the Longhorns since the start of Big 12 play. He’s started in all 18 games he’s played in for Texas so far this season. And Jones averaged 15.6 points per game, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.1 blocks. He’s shot 41.9 percent from the field, 31.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 78.4 percent from the free-throw line.
This guard/wing trio of Jones, Coleman, and Ramey, could be a driving force for Texas to beat Kansas early this week.
