Texas Football: 2022 class reaching elite status with 4-Star S Bryan Allen Jr.

Some truly amazing results on the trail for newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class kept on rolling on early afternoon of the final day of the month of February. The final commitment of February for the 2022 Texas recruiting class came from the ultra highly coveted four-star 6-foot and 180 pound Aledo safety Bryan Allen Jr.

The commitment of Allen Jr. to Sark and the Longhorns arrived on Feb. 28 via an announcement on his Twitter timeline. Six of the seven commitments in the Longhorns 2022 class have arrived since the turn of the calendar year. And five of those six commits in 2021 for the Longhorns 2022 class arrived during the month of February alone.

As the second commit in the Longhorns 2022 class that will boost the defensive backfield, Allen Jr. is a big piece of this group. The other defensive back commit in the 2022 class is the talented four-star Memorial cornerback Jaylon Guilbeau.

New Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski is also getting a major boost for his scheme by landing the commitment from Allen Jr. The Texas defensive backfield looks to get a huge depth boost from the 2022 class between the commitments from Allen Jr. and Guilbeau.

How Texas football landed Bryan Allen Jr.

Texas was one of more than 25 schools that sent a scholarship offer to Allen Jr. Some of the other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the LSU Tigers, Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Michigan Wolverines, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Penn State Nittany Lions, TCU Horned Frogs, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.

It was just before the lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic that Allen Jr. received his Texas scholarship offer and took a final unofficial visit on campus with the program. Texas was getting in with Allen Jr. at the right time, and the likes of Kwiatkowski and Sark certainly recently ratcheted up the efforts to get his interests to the Forty Acres.

What Texas is getting from this commitment out of Allen Jr. is a very versatile defensive back that can make plays all over the field and in multiple aspects of the game. He’s solid in defending the pass with an underrated combination of pursuit speed and agility end-to-end on the field. He’s also a reliable tackler, lengthy and potent athlete, and has excellent instincts on the ball.

Moreover, Allen Jr. ranks as the nation’s No. 88 2022 high school prospect, No. 6 safety, and No. 18 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 58 high school prospect, No. 6 safety, and No. 13 prospect out of Texas.

Texas is now up to seven commits in the Longhorns 2022 class, with Allen Jr. being the latest. This 2022 class is starting to become a real threat to rank as the top in the nation for this cycle. The momentum even carried over to the Longhorns 2023 class, which landed its first commit heading into the weekend in the elite El Campo running back Rueben Owens.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 4 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of Oklahoma. Texas’ highest rated commit in the 2022 class is the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy.
