Mostly all that remains at this point for newly hired Texas football head coach Steve Sarkisian to fill out his staff is find the support pieces. Sark already has his on-field coaching staff locked in, including major hires like former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive line coach Kyle Flood as Texas offensive line coach and offensive coordinator and the former Washington Huskies co-defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski as the next defensive coordinator.

The next up hire for the Longhorns support staff from Sark came on March 1, with the addition of former Rutgers Scarlet Knights quarterback Mike Bimonte as an offensive analyst. On the afternoon of March 1, Bimonte announced he would be joining the Texas staff in his next role in the college football coaching ranks.

This New Jersey native played for the Scarlet Knights as a backup quarterback in the early-to-mid 2010’s, before ending his playing career in 2014. He was mostly down the Rutgers depth chart during his playing days in college, but held a significant special teams role in 2013 and 2014.

Background of the latest Texas football staff addition

Really the only role that Bimonte held on a college football staff was as a quarterbacks coach and offensive quality control coach with the FCS Delaware Blue Hens in 2016. During the 2016 season, the Blue Hens registered just under 1,100 passing yards as a team, six passing touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Delaware was mostly known as a run first offense then, and still is the last few years. They more than doubled the number of passing yards with rushing yards in 2016. That is largely thanks to their wing-T offensive scheme, which one wingback lined up off the tight end and another back lined up off the weakside.

Bimonte will certainly bring a different perspective to the table. This will be just his second job on any college staff following his playing days at Rutgers ending a little more than six years ago.

Texas looks to still have a few spots to add among their quality control and support staff among the analysts. Bimonte is the latest addition after the promotion of former assistant running backs coach Brandon Harris to director of recruiting and the hiring of Bryan Glasscock as the director of player personnel.

dark. Next. 2023 class starts off with a bang with Rueben Owens

Sark was hired by the Longhorns back on Jan. 2 as the fourth head coach for the program in less than a decade. He replaced now former fourth-year head coach Tom Herman, who just took a job as an offensive analyst/special projects coach with the Chicago Bears on March 1.
