The amount of success that head coach Shaka Smart found for his 2021 Texas basketball recruiting class during the 2020 calendar year was nothing shy of very impressive. Smart also found a high level of success for his 2020 recruiting class last year while working with limited room. He was able to get a commitment/signing from the elite five-star Vandegrift power forward and hometown product Greg Brown as the lone addition through his 2021 signing class.

The hope is that Smart and the Longhorns will translate last year’s high level of success on the recruiting trail for the 2020 and 2021 classes through to the 2022 cycle. It is nearing that time where college hoops programs will start hitting the recruiting trail hard for the 2022 cycle, and it would be good for Smart and the Longhorns to get an early jump on things.

Texas is without a commit in their 2022 class, which is nothing to panic about at this point in time. In fact there are less than 30 programs, out of more than 250 in the entirety of Division I college hoops, that have even a single 2022 commit. But four of the 10 Big 12 programs do have at least 2022 commit as of the morning of March 6.

Who could be the initial commit in the Longhorns 2022 hoops recruiting class?

It’s hard to know as we’re still making our way through the 2020-21 college basketball regular season. But we do know who Smart and the Longhorns should be prioritizing on the recruiting trail by now for their 2022 class.

Here’s a look into three early grand prize targets for the Longhorns 2022 class.
