2) Early grand prize 2022 Texas basketball targets

Texas did really well with their 2021 class to get a very highly touted set of guard commitments/signings locked in by the time the Early Signing Period arrived last year. That groups includes the talented and twitchy four-star Assumption point guard Emarion Ellis and the ultra-highly touted four-star IMG Academy shooting guard Tamar Bates.

Where Texas could continue that pipeline of guard talent with an initial commitment in their 2022 class in the very near future is with the highly coveted four-star 6-foot-2 and 170 pound Wagner High School point guard Austin Nunez. Texas got in on Nunez early, and that solid recognition from Smart and his staff could ultimately win the day with his pursuit.

Texas is now one of more than a dozen schools to send scholarship offers Nunez’s way. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas A&M Aggies, Baylor, Virginia Cavaliers, Georgetown Hoyas, LSU Tigers, Memphis Tigers, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oregon Ducks, TCU, and Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

But the two 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions that are in from the experts are both picking Nunez to give his commitment to Texas over the rest of the competition. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking Nunez to also give his pledge to Texas.

Moreover, Nunez ranks as the nation’s No. 56 2022 high school prospect, No. 9 point guard, and No. 6 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 82 high school prospect, No. 16 point guard, and No. 8 prospect out of Texas.
