1) Early grand prize 2022 Texas basketball targets

Yet another big time blue chip guard prospect for the 2022 recruiting cycle that Smart and the Longhorns should already be prioritizing at this point in time is the elite five-star iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy 6-foot-4 and 185 pound shooting guard Keyonte George. This high school superstar prospect is already making waves on the recruiting trail for a full calendar year now.

George is one of the most highly rated 2022 high school prospects that Texas has already sent a scholarship offer to. In fact he and the fellow elite five-star prospect Dariq Whitehead are the two highest rated recruits for this cycle to receive a Texas offer.

Moreover, George ranks as the nation’s No. 10 2022 high school prospect, top overall shooting guard, and the top overall prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 15 high school prospect, and the top overall shooting guard and prospect out of Texas.

Where Smart and the Longhorns really have to be careful with the pursuit of George is with letting his commitment potentially get away to an overseas professional league or to the G-League. It does look like there’s a good possibility that George winds up taking the route that the likes of LaMelo Ball, Jonathan Kuminga, and Jalen Green, all did with taking their talents overseas and/or to the G-League.

If Texas is able to win over the commitment of George and keep him away from the G-League or taking his talents overseas before going to the NBA, it would be a major win for Smart.

Texas is now one of just shy of 10 schools to send a scholarship offer to George. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Arizona Wildcats, Baylor, Kansas Jayhawks, NC State Wolfpack, TCU, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
