The fortunes of late for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class and newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian were really good through the end of the month of February. Sark and his 2022 Texas recruiting class found a lot of success on the trail since he took over as the program’s head coach back on Jan. 2.

Sark and the Longhorns are doing great on the recruiting trail of late, and hopefully that spark can last throughout the rest of the 2021 offseason. And one particular position where the Longhorns are standing out is at wide receiver.

So what could be next for Sark and the Longhorns in their 2022 class at the wide receiver position this offseason?

One prospect that the new look Texas coaching staff is apparently zoning in on of late is the talented four-star 6-foot-1 and 180 pound Garland wide receiver Jordan Hudson. This product hailing out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is one of the hotter names on the recruiting trail of late.

Discussions between Texas football and Jordan Hudson

Texas has apparently “hit the gas pedal” in their pursuit of Hudson of late. According to a report from Horns247 (paid content), Texas is one of the multiple schools in contact with Hudson since he announced his commitment to the rival Oklahoma Sooners back on July 21, 2020.

Here’s more on what this report from Horns247 had to say on the matter of Sark and the Longhorns pursuit of Hudson since he announced his commitment to Oklahoma.

"“I’ve been talking to a couple schools,” he said. “They have been trying to get me to flip but I’m not really thinking about it too much right now. I like Coach Coleman, and I’ve been talking mainly to Coach Sark and (Jeff Banks) though. We have a great relationship. Really just listening to what they have to say and talk. It’s really just talk at the end of the day.”"

Considering the plethora of talent that the Longhorns currently have at the wide receiver position in their 2022 class, it certainly wouldn’t be the end of the world if they couldn’t flip the commitment of Hudson from Oklahoma. But an embarrassment of riches at the skill positions could be a great thing moving forward for Sark and second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman.

Oklahoma also has a lot of talent at the wide receiver position in their 2022 class. They hold three wide receiver commits in their 2022 class, highlighted by the elite five-star Cardinal Ritter College Prep product Luther Burden. But if Texas can continue to keep in contact with Hudson, maybe they could get their third wideout commit in their 2022 class.

Texas and Oklahoma are now two of more than 20 schools in total that have sent scholarship offers Hudson’s way. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.

Moreover, Hudson ranks as the nation’s No. 120 2022 high school prospect, No. 15 wide receiver, and No. 23 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 180 high school prospect, No. 26 wide receiver, and No. 29 prospect out of Texas.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 4 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of Oklahoma. They now hold seven total commits in their 2022 class, with the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy as the highest rated.
