Texas football has ‘reached out’ to elite QB Arch Manning consistently
There are a few emerging targets for the 2023 Texas football recruiting class that are worth the full attention from newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and his new look coaching staff. And one name that largely sticks out above the rest is the elite five-star Isidore Newman 6-foot-4 and 200 pound pro-style quarterback Arch Manning.
This rising target of the Longhorns 2023 recruiting class could go a long way to continuing an emerging elite pipeline of signal caller talent coming onto the Forty Acres. Texas already has the likes of the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy committed in their 2022 class.
If Sark and the Longhorns can continue that momentum at the quarterback position on into the 2023 class, then Manning could be the grand prize target. And the often quiet elite 2023 signal caller did recently open up on the status of his recruitment early on in a piece with Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports (paid content) on March 8.
What Arch Manning had to say about Texas football, among others
Here’s more on what this piece from 247Sports had to say on the matter of Manning’s recruitment at this point in time.
"“The teams you hear about have reached out,” Stewart said. “Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Tennessee and Florida State have all reached out. There’s obviously many others. Those are the ones he’s kind of talked to consistently but I think the good thing with him is right now he’s really just forming relationships. It’s not about the emblem on the front. I’d say those are the main ones right now that have reached out but each and every day there is more coming through.”"
Manning does appear to have some emerging front runners in the race to land his commitment still early on in his recruitment. He did mention Texas among a group of schools that also included the Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, and Florida State Seminoles that are in regular contact with him of late.
There’s no mentioning of a clear list of finalist schools from Manning. But it’s good to hear him mentioning the effort that the Texas coaching staff is putting in of late to continue to build the relationship with him.
Texas was facing an uphill battle to keep in clear communication with Manning after the coaching staff that originally sent him the scholarship offer from the school was turned over earlier in the offseason. Sark is doing really well on the recruiting trail of late, and Manning could be yet another prioritized target of his for the 2023 cycle.
The Longhorns are now one of nine programs that have sent a scholarship offer to Manning. Some of the other schools on his offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, Duke Blue Devils, North Carolina Tar Heels, and Tennessee Volunteers.
The Top247 currently ranks Manning as the nation’s No. 5 2023 high school prospect, and the top overall pro-style quarterback and prospect out of Louisiana. This product hailing out of New Orleans, LA, is about as highly coveted as it gets at the quarterback position for the 2023 recruiting cycle.
Texas currently holds one commit in their 2023 recruiting class, which arrived back on Feb. 25 in the form of the elite El Campo running back Rueben Owens. Their 2023 class is now the sole group in the Big 12 that has a commitment at this point in time.
