Greg Brown, Power Forward

One of the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention players that emerged for the Longhorns this season was the former elite five-star hometown power forward recruit and uber-talented true freshman big man Greg Brown. This potential lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and 6-foot-9 and 205 pound gifted Austin, TX, native did have an up and down run this season.

But only positive results should be ahead as Brown makes himself comfortable in his role in the starting five with the Longhorns. Brown has started in all of the 23 games he’s played in so far this season. The production of Brown down the stretch this season did get a bit more consistent, which should be a good sign of what’s to come.

Brown has shown at times to be a two-way force playing at the four. He’s averaged roughly one steal and one block per game during the regular season. And he posted a stellar defensive box plus/minus rating of 2.7, 1.2 defensive win shares, 26.1 defensive rebounding percentage, and a 91 defensive rating, thus far.

And the production on the offensive end of the floor from Brown wasn’t too shabby either. If he can be a double-double force in the paint for the Longhorns in the Big 12 Tournament, then Brown will be a real game changer for this team. Brown’s scoring has correlated directly to their success in the win column this season.

When Brown scored in the double figures during the regular season, the Longhorns won 12 of 13 games.
