Now that they have landed their initial commitment in the 2023 Texas football recruiting class, newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and his coaching staff is ready to keep rolling on the trail for the rest of this offseason. Texas landed their first commit in the 2023 class last month.

And that aforementioned initial commit in the Longhorns 2023 class came from the elite five-star El Campo running back Rueben Owens. It’s hard to get much better at the skill positions for the Longhorns as their first commit in the 2023 class than the top ranked skill position player out of the state for this recruiting cycle.

Texas is now the lone programs out of the Big 12 to hold a commitment in their 2023 recruiting class. And they surely got a big one in the top ranked running back prospect out of the state of Texas. The Top247 ranks the El Campo, TX, product Owens as the nation’s No. 26 2023 high school prospect, No. 2 running back, and the top overall prospect out of Texas.

So where do Sark and the Longhorns go from here in continuing to build their momentum on the recruiting trail?

They could continue to make waves by landing marquee commits in their 2022 and 2023 classes. There are already a few that arrived of late for both of those recruiting classes in the form of the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy, four-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart, and Owens.

With that in mind, here’s a look at a few early 2023 recruits that could be elite targets for Sark and the Longhorns moving forward.
