3) Texas football portal losses that will hurt in 2021

Marqez Bimage, Defensive Lineman

The latest impactful loss to the transfer portal for Sark and new defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski arrived last week in the form of experienced senior defensive end and former underrated three-star recruit Marqez Bimage. This was also one of the more unexpected portal losses for the Longhorns this offseason.

Bimage was going to be one of the most experienced returning linemen for the Longhorns this year, which would clearly help with the transition for the new coaching staff. But it’s also not the end of the world for the Longhorns to see Bimage leave the Forty Acres. He sat out the 2020 season already in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nonetheless, leaving depth thin in the front seven is nothing to be happy and/or confident about on the Forty Acres.

Between the losses of the likes of junior outside linebacker/edge rusher Joseph Ossai, senior defensive end Ta’Quon Graham, and the fourth-year defensive lineman Bimage, Texas will be really shine on upperclassmen in the front seven this year. Texas is fortunate that they were able to land commitments out of the portal from the likes of former LSU Tigers linebacker Ray Thornton and ex-Notre Dame Fighting Irish edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo.

Bimage played in bits and pieces of 13 games during his three years actually playing for Texas. And he registered 17 career combined tackles (14 solo and three assisted), two tackles for loss, one sack, one pass breakup, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

There is no landing spot in store yet for Bimage out of the portal, but that could happen in the near future for a defensive lineman that is capable of making an immediate impact at his next stop.
