There was a lot of noteworthy measurements and times that former Texas football players registered at the program’s Pro Day held on campus on March 11. The Texas Pro Day featured big names out of this program such as star outside linebacker/edge rusher Joseph Ossai, former five-star recruit and safety Caden Sterns, and standout offensive tackle Sam Cosmi.

But there were also other former Longhorns worth noting that participated in the Texas Pro Day earlier this week. One was a haul out of the NCAA Transfer Portal for the now former fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman. The ex-Michigan Wolverines blue chip commit and senior wide receiver Tarik Black had himself a nice showing at the Texas Pro Day on March 11.

The gifted physical tools and high ceiling that most college football fans knew that Black had in him all along really came to the forefront this week at the Pro Day. Black had both on of the best long jump measurements and vertical leaps of all former Longhorns.

Black reportedly timed in with a really solid 11-foot long jump measurement and a 42 inch vertical leap. That vertical leap measurement of 3.5 feet for Black tied Sterns for the best among former Longhorns at the Pro Day. And his long jump of 11 feet was the best among Longhorns.

A sleeper in the NFL Draft out of the Texas football program

You would really be overlooking what Black brings to the table as a gifted athlete and potent wide receiver if you didn’t consider him a sleeper in this 2021 NFL Draft class. He’s not likely going to be an early, or even a middle round pick, in the 2021 draft.

But just like many figured both Collin Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey were picked later than anticipated. In Humphrey’s case, he was a nice snag for the New Orleans Saints among undrafted free agent signings two years ago.

Between Black’s four years playing for Texas and Michigan, he only took part in bits and pieces of 23 games. In slightly under two dozen games played in his career, Black registered 50 receptions for nearly 750 receiving yards and three touchdown catches.

It’s very easy to see why NFL fans and scouts are starting to see a lot of value in Black’s potential. He could be a late round steal or undrafted free agent signing for one lucky team at the next level a few months down the road.
