Texas Football: 3 sophomores ready to breakout in spring camp
2) Sophomores to watch in spring ball for Texas football
Marcus Washington, Wide Receiver
There’s also going to be a lot of turnover in the receiving corps for the Longhorns this offseason. They already lost the likes of former Michigan Wolverines senior transfer wideout Tarik Black and junior Brennan Eagles heading into the offseason. Although they both had the chance to return this year with the extra year of eligibility afforded by the NCAA, they will be a part of the 2021 NFL Draft class.
Knowing that, Texas is going to have some new faces step up in the receiving corps. It will help to get the likes of redshirt freshman Jordan Whittington, redshirt sophomore Joshua Moore, and sophomore Jake Smith this year. But other new faces will have to step up in the spotlight for Sark and second-year wide receivers coach Andre Coleman.
One interesting player to watch in spring drills and the spring football game for the Longhorns in the receiving corps will be the 6-foot-2 and 190 pound sophomore former four-star recruit Marcus Washington. The playing time for Washington didn’t really ramp up in either of the last two years under Herman’s direction.
However, given the usually reliable hands (mostly known from his high school football days) and the speed and elusiveness of Washington, Sark might try to get him a bigger role next fall. In the bits and pieces of five games that Washington did play over the course of the last two years, he registered seven catches for 89 receiving yards, and one touchdown. His sole career touchdown catch came in Texas’ dominant season opening win last year over UTEP.
