The defensive side of the ball could really use some work for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class in the near future. And new head coach Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski appear to have a new target in mind to continue building a foundation on that side of the ball that could really help out in the trenches.

One of the more recent scholarship offers that the Longhorns sent out among 2022 high school prospects is also one of the hotter names at the defensive tackle position for this cycle at this moment. Under-the-radar three-star Southaven 6-foot-4 and 300 pound towering defensive tackle Aaron Bryant has now received offers from the likes of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks, and the Longhorns, since just Feb. 23.

Texas has now sent out scholarship offers to more than a dozen defensive tackle prospects for the 2022 recruiting cycle. But Bryant could wind up being one of the more interesting offers that Texas has sent out to this position group of late.

There’s not a single commit yet in the Longhorns 2022 class that plays in the trenches, or even in the front seven. While they would have an uphill battle to win over the interests of Bryant in the near future, he’s a prospect worth watching in the coming weeks.

Texas football in the running for the fast rising DT

Programs in SEC country are trying to keep a hold of the interests of this fast rising defensive tackle hailing out of Mississippi.

In fact, head coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels appear to be keeping a firm hold of the lead for the projected commitment of Bryant at this point in time. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have Bryant’s commitment projected to go to Ole Miss over the rest of the field.

Texas would have to make some major moves and soon to get more firmly in the running to land Bryant’s commitment. But it is interesting that Sark would jump in at this point.

The Longhorns are one of more than a dozen schools on Bryant’s growing offer sheet. Other notable schools includes the Indiana Hoosiers, Arkansas Razorbacks, Memphis Tigers, and Mississippi State Bulldogs, among others.

Moreover, Bryant ranks as the No. 47 defensive tackle and No. 17 prospect out of Mississippi in the Top247.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas now has six commits in their 2022 class, with the highest rated being the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy. But it was the decommitment of four-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart that made headlines for the 2022 class of late.
