In less than two weeks from now, newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and this new look Texas football program will begin their bout of spring drills on campus. Spring camp is set to begin on March 23 for Texas, which is one of the first major marks in the offseason timeline on the Forty Acres for Sark and his new coaching staff.

Texas had a lot of success on the recruiting trail and a lot of movement in the NCAA Transfer Portal since Sark was hired to replace the now former fourth-year head coach Tom Herman more than two months ago. Sark also had a number of players from last season’s team enter the 2021 NFL Draft.

Key losses from last year’s squad compared to this offseason includes senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger, star junior outside linebacker/edge rusher Joseph Ossai, standout junior safety Caden Sterns, and redshirt junior offensive tackle Sam Cosmi. There are others that will amount to costly losses for the Longhorns this year, but there’s too many to mention here.

Where the Longhorns need to focus is on installing the new schemes on each side of the ball effectively. With all of the coaching staff turnover that Texas had in each of the last two offseasons, it will be important to establish a good level of stability starting in spring practice.

Sark will get roughly one month of spring drills before the Orange-White Game arrives on April 24. That will be the first time that the Longhorns are set to take in some type of game action at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium since last November.

With this in mind, here’s a look into three upperclassmen to watch for the Longhorns in spring camp.
