Amid the top targets of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class at this point in time is the elite five-star 6-foot-4 and 310 pound Bowie offensive tackle Devon Campbell. Texas needs to build a solid foundation in their 2022 class along the offensive line to make up for a plethora of misses from the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Newly hired Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach/offensive coordinator Kyle Flood did good work on the recruiting trail thus far for the 2022 and 2023 classes, but there’s still a long way to go this offseason. Continuing to stay at the forefront of the pursuit of the insanely highly coveted Texas native Campbell is key in the coming months.

And the Longhorns coaching staff got a good look at what Campbell can truly bring to the table when he took part in the Under Armour All-American Series Camp in Dallas, TX, over the weekend. A number of Texas prospects from the 2022 and 2023 cycles were in action at the UA Camp in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex last weekend, giving good insight into the state of their recruitment.

Campbell really showed out in the offensive line drills and one-on-one battles in the trenches at UA Dallas. He got to face other top tier prospects in the trenches for the 2022 and 2023 cycles like four-star Georgia commit Bear Alexander, three star defensive tackle Chris McClellan, and four-star Baylor commit Carmello Jones.

In the individual drills and measurements, Campbell looked impressive too. He was getting a ton of media attention over the weekend, which is well deserved given that he is one of the top rated 2022 offensive linemen in the entire country.

Texas is one of the nearly 30 schools that have offered Campbell as of the late morning of March 16. Other highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Oklahoma Sooners, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.

The original Texas coach that was pursuing Campbell was their former offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator Herb Hand. But since Flood was one of the main assistants in pursuit of Campbell when he was Alabama’s offensive line coach, the connection should still remain to some degree.

Moreover, Campbell ranks as the nation’s No. 7 2022 high school prospect, top overall offensive guard (classifies differently in different areas of his recruiting profiles), and No. 3 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 22 high school prospect, top overall offensive guard, and No. 3 prospect out of Texas.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma. They now hold six commits in their 2022 class after losing the commitment of the talented four-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart earlier in the month.
