It does appear as if summer official visits could resume as a thing once again that is a critical part of the offseason recruiting process around the college football landscape. And that would be great for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class to establish some level of stability with the new coaching staff.

Newly hired Longhorns head coach and the former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator/reigning Broyles Award winner Steve Sarkisian got a real spark on the recruiting trail since being hired back on Jan. 2. It was back in early January that Sark replaced the now former fourth-year Texas head coach Tom Herman.

Moreover, the 2022 class really took off for the Longhorns over the course of the last month and a half. And there could be more prominent results on the way for this group in the near future.

With official visits potential returning this summer to the recruiting landscape, Sark and his staff could get a major boost. One prospect that is apparently “eyeing” a summer visit to the Forty Acres that could be big for Texas is the talented and sizable four-star 6-foot-5 and 210 pound Greer wide receiver Jaleel Skinner.

Visits returning for Texas football and Jaleel Skinner

According to a report from 247Sports on March 16 (paid content), three of the schools that Skinner wants to visit in particular this summer includes Texas, the Florida Gators, and Arizona State Sun Devils.

With the scholarship offer from Texas having gone to Skinner just back on Jan. 26, 2021, he wouldn’t be able to take a visit since that went out. Texas is one of the more recent of nearly two dozen schools to offer Skinner thus far.

Some other notable schools that have offered Skinner thus far includes the Oklahoma Sooners, Clemson Tigers, Florida State Seminoles, South Carolina Gamecocks, Auburn Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, Oregon Ducks, and Tennessee Volunteers.

Texas is late in the running to offer Greer, but it appears that currently hold some traction with the South Carolina native. Sark and the Longhorns are largely appealing to skill position players after the way the new head coach commanded the Alabama offense in each of the last two years.

Moreover, Skinner ranks as the nation’s No. 97 2022 high school prospect, No. 3 tight end, and No. 3 prospect out of South Carolina (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 86 high school prospect, No. 3 tight end, and No. 2 prospect out of South Carolina.

Greer is classified as a tight end by some recruiting outlets, and as a wide receiver. His versatility ability to make an impact in the receiving and blocking game gives him the ability to play at either at the next level.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind Oklahoma. They now hold six commits in their 2022 class, after losing the commitment of four-star Frisco-Liberty wideout Evan Stewart back on March 11.
