Texas Football: Bijan Robinson emerging as a ‘leader’ in the locker room
This will be a fun spring camp for the Texas football program as the former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator/reigning Broyles Award winner Steve Sarkisian takes the reigns for one of his first major points on the timeline this offseason. Texas has a rejuvenated bit of energy for them ahead of the start of spring ball, which is set for March 23.
There’s a lot of talent returning from last year’s team, especially at the skill positions. And we’ll get our first look at that skill position talent for the Longhorns getting back into action in contact drills and scrimmages starting next week.
One of the most anticipated players that Longhorns fans are excited to see this year is star sophomore running back and former elite five-star recruit Bijan Robinson. Texas saw Robinson really break through down the stretch last season, especially once junior running back Keaontay Ingram had his run come to an end.
New role for Texas football star RB Bijan Robinson this year
And apparently there’s a new leadership role that Robinson could find himself in come spring ball. A report from Horns247 on the morning of March 18 (paid content) expresses that Robinson is starting to become a “vocal leader” with this team through the end of winter workouts.
Robinson played a huge role in the success of the offense down the stretch last season. In his final two games of the season, he mustered up well over 500 total yards (while averaging more than a whopping 18 yards per carry), with six total touchdowns.
Since Robinson led by his play/production on the field last year, it’s nice to hear about him stepping up as a vocal leader too. Robinson is a big part to this team, and he will be thrust into a leadership role in all likelihood this fall.
He and third-year running back Roschon Johnson both will play an integral role in the Longhorns success this year. Those two combined for more than 1,300 total yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns last season, and will have even higher expectations this fall.
Robinson and Johnson will be hoping to bring this Longhorns team under a new coaching regime to another level in 2021. They finished up with a record of 7-3 (5-3 Big 12) last season under the direction of the now former head coach Tom Herman.
