Texas Football: 3 underrated 2022 prospects Sark should try to flip
In a key time of the offseason for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class, newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and his newly formed staff are getting things rolling heading into spring ball on the Forty Acres. Texas had a really hot stretch on the recruiting trail for both their 2022 and 2023 classes in the roughly two and a half months since Sark was first hired to replace former head coach Tom Herman.
Sark and the Longhorns are reeling a bit on the recruiting trail in the last few weeks, though, as some of the momentum they had built early in the offseason has died off. Texas did lose a key commitment from the uber-talented Frisco-Liberty four-star wide receiver Evan Stewart back on March 11.
Seeing Stewart re-open his recruitment last week was the first real big set back for Sark and his new coaching staff. They really were “all gas, no brakes” on the recruiting trail throughout February and early March.
Looking ahead for Sark and Texas football recruiting
Texas even got their first commitment of the 2023 recruiting class last month, when they snagged the elite El Campo running back Rueben Owens. More commits could be on the way soon too in their 2023 class.
Moreover, Texas currently holds commitments from six prospects in their 2022 class after seeing off Stewart’s pledge. Their highest rated commit is the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy. And according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners.
With all of this in mind, here’s a look at three underrated prospects for the 2022 class that Sark and the Longhorns should try and flip this offseason.
