Texas Football: 3 underrated 2022 in-state prospects Sark must prioritize

Through this point, there’s a lot to be excited about on the trail for newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian and the 2022 Texas football recruiting class. Sark and his 2022 Texas recruiting class got off to a really hot start in the couple of months since he was first hired to replace the now former fourth-year head coach Tom Herman.

Back on Jan. 2, the former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and reigning Broyles Award winner Sark took over as the Longhorns fourth head coach in the span of less than a decade. All of the coaching staff turnover was figured to cause some harmful effects on the recruiting trail for Texas. But nothing of the sort has really transpired for Sark and his new coaching staff.

Any ups and downs for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class

Really the only true letdown on the recruiting trail thus far for either the 2022 or 2023 class for Sark came with the March 11 decommitment of the talented four-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart. But since Texas still has the possibility at least of winning the commitment of Stewart back at some point in time before the Early Signing Period arrives in December, that’s nothing worth panicking about.

Texas now holds commitments from six prospects in their 2022 class, with the highest rated being the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy. And according to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners.
