Texas Football: 4 impactful spring camp absences due to injury
Impactful injuries in spring No. 1: DeMarvion Overshown
There are very few returning starters on either side of the ball for the Longhorns this year that bring as much proven production to the table as the former elite four-star recruit and senior linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. The former converted safety should be able to lead the way for a new-looking group of linebackers on the Forty Acres in 2021.
About the most experienced returning linebackers as a whole this year for Texas will be Overshown and former JUCO transfer Juwan Mitchell. That will put a lot of pressure on their shoulders to thrive in a new found role. Texas could also give more elevated roles at the linebacker position to a few of the transfers they’ve hauled in this offseason.
What Overshown brings to the table for the Longhorns this year in terms of production is 79 career combined tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, three sacks, three interceptions, 10 pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
Most of the production for Overshown came in the last season and a half. He became one of the integral glue players for the Texas defense last year, and he started to mop up more errors that were common to him before down the stretch.
Overshown will miss spring ball as he’s dealing with a shoulder injury, just like a number of other Longhorns players at this point in time. Getting him back for summer workouts and fall camp will be critical, though, for Sark and linebackers coach Randy Choate.
