Ex-Marquette transfer portal targets No. 2: Koby McEwen

There were already a plethora of transfer portal losses that the Longhorns basketball team experienced themselves entering what will be a long offseason. Texas saw the likes of former highly coveted four-star recruit and sophomore shooting guard Donovan Williams and senior big man Royce Hamm already enter the transfer portal this offseason.

And the Longhorns also lost the likes of breakthrough star sophomore power forward Kai Jones declare early for the 2021 NBA Draft. It could be the former elite five-star recruit and freshman power forward Greg Brown that joins Jones in declaring early for the 2021 draft.

Not to mention that Texas also lost senior versatile standout guard Matt Coleman and senior big man Jericho Sims as they look to turn pro entering the offseason.

One specific depth need that stands out for the Longhorns this offseason is in the backcourt rotation. Texas might wind up relying too heavily on the likes of redshirt junior shooting guard/wing Andrew Jones and junior guard Courtney Ramey to shoulder the load next season.

That’s why it could be a good move for the Longhorns to soon go after the former Marquette and Utah State Aggies sizable and physically gifted 6-foot-4 and 205 pound senior shooting guard Koby McEwen. As a good defender and shot creator, McEwen could be a reliable veteran piece that could come off the bench in the second unit for Texas next season.

McEwen has a plethora of experience from his time playing the Big East and Mountain West Conference that he could bring to the Forty Acres. A number of positive reasons exist for why he could be a good fit with Texas including his good one-on-one defense, explosive ability in transition, and his versatility capability to create his own shots.
