The results on the trail for the 2022 Texas football recruiting class since the hiring of first-year head coach Steve Sarkisian this offseason are hard to complain about. Texas has landed multiple blue chip commits, and even a five-star quarterback, in the less than three months since Sark was first hired to replace now former head coach Tom Herman back on Jan. 2.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator and reigning Broyles Award winner Sark has looked like a successful head coach hiring by the Longhorns administration, but it’s still very early on. Sark is going to have to prove his elevation of this program on the gridiron in the next year or two to truly show the growth he can instill here.

Herman showed real flashes of being able to elevate the Longhorns football program at times during his four-year tenure as head coach. But inconsistencies that were rampant both on the field and on the recruiting trail for Herman ultimately doomed him in Austin.

Construct of Sark’s 2022 Texas football recruiting class

Texas now has commitments from seven prospects in their 2022 class, with the latest coming from three-star North Shore defensive tackle Kristopher Ross back on March 23. And their highest-rated prospect in their 2022 class, as it stands now, is the elite five-star Junipero Serra pro-style quarterback Maalik Murphy.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas needs to keep this momentum rolling on the recruiting trail throughout the rest of spring camp and on into the season of restored official visits into this summer.

But there are a few looming important Texas targets that look like they are getting away from Sark of late. Here’s a look at three 2022 prospects in particular that are getting away from Sark and the Longhorns at this point of the offseason.
