High risk, high reward candidates No. 3: Porter Moser

One potentially good option for the Longhorns to find their next head coach is the current Loyola-Chicago Ramblers head coach Porter Moser. A coach that has really taken his program to new heights since taking over roughly one decade ago. Loyola-Chicago has now become one of the more underrated and formidable mid-major programs in the entire country.

Moser deserves a lot of the credit for not only taking the Ramblers to new heights in recent years but for what he did during his roughly decade-long tenure with Arkansas-Little Rock and Illinois State at times as head coach throughout the 2000s. He registered a record of 54-34 during his time as the Arkansas-Little Rock head coach (.614 winning percentage).

And thus far, Moser has a record of 188-141 (.571 winning percentage) during his time as the Loyola-Chicago head coach. But it was the last four or five years that the Ramblers really got some recognition on the national stage. Back during the 2017-18 campaign, the Ramblers finished up with 32 wins and were a Cinderella story making it all the way to the Final Four.

This year, Loyola-Chicago was one of the better stories in March Madness again. Moser and the Ramblers made it all the way to the Sweet 16 (and finished up this season with a record of 26-5, with an AP Poll-high ranking at No. 17) as an eight-seed. They would eventually fall short to the 12-seed and PAC-12 Tournament champs Oregon State Beavers.
