Ex-Texas football WR commit trending to Arkansas ahead of decision date
A former notable commitment in the 2022 Texas football recruiting class back when head coach Tom Herman was leading the way, four-star Lancaster wide receiver Phaizon Wilson, has another looming decision date. Texas once held the commitment of Wilson, as he was in the mix in the 2022 class when the elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers was also committed.
But once Ewers rescinded his commitment from the Longhorns 2022 class, Wilson also re-opened his recruitment in the same 24-hour span. That span of time where Herman and the Longhorns saw Ewers and Wilson re-open their recruitments is largely what could’ve caused his downfall as the Texas head coach.
Wilson had originally committed to the Longhorns 2022 class back on July 31, 2020. But he decommitted from Texas Oct. 29, 2020. That meant he kept his pledge to Texas for less than three months.
There actually weren’t any additional offers that Wilson picked up since he decommitted from Texas in October 2020. He does hold offers from more than 15 schools as of the night of March 28, though. Some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Auburn Tigers, Ole Miss Rebels, Florida Gators, Mizzou Tigers, SMU Mustangs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Texas A&M Aggies.

Recruitment ahead for former Texas football commit Phaizon Wilson
There was a looming decision date that the 6-foot-4 and 210 pound Wilson had for March 25. But that decision date was then pushed back with an announcement on his Twitter timeline, now placing it for April 2.

And just ahead of his looming decision date, Wilson was seen in a post on Twitter wearing Arkansas gear. The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions also have both of their expert picks favoring Wilson to give his commitment to the Razorbacks over Texas and the rest of the field.
The Rivals FutureCast also has 75 percent of their analysts and publishers picking Wilson to give his commitment to Arkansas.
Arkansas looks like the clear frontrunner at this point in time to land Wilson. Texas looks to be out of the running now, which makes sense if they can keep four-star Lewisville wide receiver Armani Winfield and get back four-star Frisco-Liberty wide receiver Evan Stewart in their 2022 class.
Moreover, Wilson ranks as the nation’s No. 311 2022 high school prospect, No. 45 wide receiver, and No. 42 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the No. 72 wide receiver and No. 70 prospect out of Texas.
According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class now ranks at No. 8 in the nation and in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. They now hold commits from seven prospects in their 2022 class, with the latest coming from three-star North Shore defensive tackle Kristopher Ross.
