A big 7-on-7 tournament over the weekend saw a lot of top targets of the 2022 Texas football recruiting class in action. In general, it is that time of year that top recruiting combines, showcases, 7-on-7 tournaments, etc. take hold. The college football recruiting landscape can see some movement and fast risers, especially with so much change on the way in the latter stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the True Buzz 7-on-7 Invitational over the weekend, some of the top high school prospects around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and the state of Texas as a whole saw action. And one particular key Longhorns target took to the spotlight in the DFW Metroplex over the weekend in the elite five-star Cy Park 6-foot-3 and 200 pound outside linebacker Harold Perkins.

As a prospect that is getting attention from all over the country, the Cypress, TX, product Perkins is a target that newly hired head coach Steve Sarkisian should do his best to keep in-state. And not only that, the Longhorns should work to keep him away from competitors on the recruiting trail like head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Texas A&M Aggies.

Over the weekend, Perkins was on a campus visit with another Big 12 foe of the Longhorns, in the TCU Horned Frogs. He also has a scheduled official visit with the Aggies on June 4, 2021. That will be one of the first official visit weekends in more than one calendar year, in the latter stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

How Texas is prioritizing Perkins in particular of late is the portion of the coaching staff going after him. According to a 247Sports report, Perkins is having Sark himself and new Texas special teams coordinator/recruiting specialist Jeff Banks going after him for the Longhorns.

But apparently, the schools that Perkins reportedly mentioned he also wants to visit in-person this summer, over the weekend, were the Miami Hurricanes, USC Trojans, Oregon Ducks, and Florida Gators. Texas was not mentioned specifically in the official visit conversation in this report, but it is one that Sark and Banks need to get on, and soon.

The 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions have two expert picks projecting the commitment of Perkins to land with Texas A&M over Texas and the rest of the field. And the Rivals FutureCast has all of their analysts and publishers picking Perkins to land with Texas A&M over the rest of the field.

Texas A&M and Texas are two of more than 30 schools that have offered Perkins as of the evening of March 29. And some of the other notable schools on his offer sheet include the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Miami, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oregon, TCU, Tennessee Volunteers, and USC.

Moreover, Perkins ranks as the nation’s No. 14 2022 high school prospect, top overall outside linebacker, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 18 high school prospect, top overall outside linebacker, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas.
