At this point of the offseason, the NCAA Transfer Portal should start playing less of a role in how the shaping of the roster for the Texas football program is figured out. Yet, Texas is having a hard time at any point over the course of the last three offseasons keeping the transfer portal out of the headlines.

Given the coaching staff turnover the Longhorns found in each of the last two offseasons, roster attrition is expected. But the rate at which new Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and the now former fourth-year head coach Tom Herman saw the roster turnover at times in the last two offseasons was pretty extreme.

Transfer situation for Texas football this offseason

Sark and the Longhorns just saw another key linebacker enter the transfer portal earlier this week. Junior linebacker and former highly touted JUCO recruit Juwan Mitchell wound up entering the portal on March 31, thinning out the Longhorns depth at the position even more in the midst of spring camp.

Texas has a host of former players that are still in the transfer portal as of the evening of April 1 that are trying to find a home ahead of the start of the 2021 season. They still have a good while to do so, but getting in the mix ahead of summer workouts and fall camp can be key to earning immediate playing time in the looming regular season.

With all of that in mind, here’s a look at three former Texas transfers that are still trying to find a home at this point of the 2021 offseason.
